Dear friends, I hope you are having a good week. I very much enjoyed seeing you all at the marvelous community Shabbat dinner honoring our veterans last Friday and am looking forward to seeing you at yet another very active Shabbat weekend! We have our Shabbat services tonight at 7:30 pm and tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 9:30 am. This week's Torah portion is Vayera, one of the most significant in all of our liturgy, so important that we read it on both days of Rosh Hashanah. This portion includes the alamity of Sodom and Gomorrah, the miraculous conception and birth of Isaac, son of Abraham and Sarah, and the spellbinding and difficult to conceive story of the binding of Isaac. We will read the first triennial which includes all of Chapter 18 of the Book of Genesis.
We have a full schedule of activities on Sunday! We start off with our Adult Education class meeting between 11 am and 12 noon where we will begin our study of the 613 Mitzvot. Last week, we learned new insights as we read, studied, and discussed the Ten Commandments. Please feel free to attend even if you have not done so before. We will catch you up! Then from 12 noon til 1 pm, Eileen Hochstadt continues her adult elementary Hebrew reading class, a great experience for those who would like to follow along and participate in our religious services. Again, we will catch you up if you haven't attended in awhile or are new to the class! Finally, thanks to the hard work of Barbara E. Johnson, we will be meeting at 3 pm at Harold Seltzers in front of the Gulf View Mall on Route 19 in Port Richey for our first dine-out gathering of the season and the first in a long time. This will be the first of many at which we get a chance, to relax and enjoy a good meal with friends and neighbors in a great atmosphere.
So lots to do at the JCC this Shabbat weekend. Please consider taking advantage of one or more or preferably all of the offerings! See you in shul, Ron
Sincerely,
Ron Becker
