Dear friends,
Our reading and study of the Torah, we "experienced" Shabbat Shira, the successful crossing of the sea and the jubilant song that it inspired, we now are ready to receive the Ten Commandments at Sinai. Through our immersion in the Torah, and just as will later celebrate Passover as if we too were liberated from slavery in Egypt, we read the revelation of the Ten Commandments עֲשֶׂרֶת הַדְּבָרִים as if we too were at Sinai to receive them. Our tradition is passed on L'dor V'dor from generation to generation. It is not enough to simply read the Ten Commandments this Shabbat morning and again on Shavuot morning, or to post them on school bulletin boards as they have done in some states, but to actual live them in our daily practices.
Please join me at Shabbat services this evening at 7:30 pm and tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 9:30 am as we read the Ten Commandments in the Book of Shemot (Exodus) parshah Yitro. We will celebrate Tu B'Shevat and President's Day weekend on Saturday with a special Shabbat luncheon following services. We will be treated to a delicious vegetarian lasagna and first fruits to honor our Hebrew Arbor Day and the legacies of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
Thanks to our small, but dedicated and enthusiastic cadre of volunteers who give a few hours every month at Metropolitan Ministries and to our bingo players for donating funds and food. It is never too late to join us! Please help my wife Chris celebrate her birthday by volunteering with us at Metropolitan Ministries during our monthly 11 am - 2 pm shift on Thursday, February 27th at their campus in Holiday on 3216 Route 19 across from Sun Toyota. This small effort is not in any way strenuous and helps to provide the organization with the opportunity to serve so many people who are in need during this particularly difficult year.

לֹא תִרְצַח
לֹא תִנְאָף
לֹא תִגְנֹב
לֹא תַעֲנֶה בְרֵעֲךָ עֵד שָׁקֶר
